Relay for Life fashion show was a success

A good time was had by all.......for our First "Relay for Life Fashion Show - Fashions for Hope" which was held Sept. 25 at the Kauffman Ruritan Club. This was a unique show... in that all of our models were chosen because they shared a common factor....they were cancer survivors. Thanks, to our 12 models

To start the evening, our basket raffle sales table was very busy, and by the end of the evening, our total sales from this part of the event alone were $620 (most of this was raised within the first hour after we opened). Then a delicious meal was served to us by the Kauffman Ruritan Club staff - complete with dessert and coffee following the meal. The show was coordinated with our local Dress Barn Clothing store in Hagerstown, and Tresia, Heather and Nicki were responsible for organizing the fashions, providing the commentary and announcing the models as they walked the runway.

Thanks to the following businesses/individuals for donating door prizes (30 in all): AC Moore, Dodie's Designs, H & R Block in Greencastle, Scrapmania, Linda Stoler, Rosie Hykes, Wes & Sue Palmer, Kauffman Ruritan, Misty Stoler, Judy Peck and Posies & Pretties, Willowtree Gifts and Curves of Greencastle.

Special thanks to our teams who coordinated and organized this event: Linda Stoler, Salem Church Team; Darlene Higgins and Rosie Hykes, Jaywalkers Team; Cindy Custer and Connie Widder, Kauffman Ruritan; and Marlene Duffey, Jan Eppleman, Cora Crider and Sharon Martin of the Greencastle Lioness Club.

Also thanks need to be given to Graphics Universal for donating the posters and tickets for the event; to Kauffman Ruritan for the use of their building; to our ticket sales locations, Earl's Market, Curves, Carl's Drug, Dodie's Designs, Record Herald, Echo Pilot, ACS Office, Total Energy Services/Greencastle Tax Office, G-A Chamber of Commerce and Graphics Universal.

Thanks to the following newspapers/community organizations for the publicity they provided via articles in newsletters, in their newspapers, etc., to advertise this event: Echo Pilot- Pat Fridgen, Record Herald- Lauren McLane, Public Opinion Iris Hersh and Herald Mail- Jenn Fitch; G-A Chamber of Commerce newsletter.

All told, we raised a profit of $1920 to start off the Relay for Life season for 2008! This money was split four ways between the teams involved. A final thanks to all of you who bought tickets and attended the event. We sold 163 tickets, and for our first try, we were really pleased. With such a good response, and a lot of positive feedback, we are going to try this again next year, so mark your calendars for Sept. 30, for the Second Annual Fashions for Hope show, same time, same place, same wonderful food! Dress Barn is already booked to come back and we hope you will too!
