Kindness offered on benefit bike ride

I completed my bicycle ride to the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville on Sept. 11, but not without difficulty along my journey. I only had 10 to 15 miles to go when the problem occurred with the bike. As I was riding the frame of the bike on the right side area cracked and I wasn't aware of this. I assumed the back wheel and spoke broke due to the wheel going around crooked.

The Lord was watching over me during my journey. I truly believe so. I stopped on this back road to Shanksville at this house and a very kind, caring lady and her husband showed me that there are people in the world that do care for people such as myself. Her husband drove me and my bicycle to Somerset to a bicycle shop and the man there looked it over and noticed the frame was cracked. He called a welding shop man for me and this man that was in charge of the welding and one of his employees took care of my problem that afternoon.

I offered to pay these four caring people, but they said no charge. The man that took me to those places said maybe if he breaks down someone will help him. After my bike was fixed I continued on my journey to the crash site. I got there late in the afternoon, had photos taken and posed for some.

Amotorcycle rider there gave a donation toward the Veterans Memorial. He said that is really great of me doing rides like that. He looked at my plates I had on each end of my bike; one of me at the site there last year and one of me at the Vietnam wall last year.

I got back home on Sept. 12. I mentioned to my employer along with the bank I deal with of making a donation before I left on my journey. Anyone still wishing to contribute can still do so by contacting the American Legion or VFW personnel in Greencastle.
