Greencastle United soccer opens season

This Saturday was the opening day for Greencastle United Soccer Club. This year Greencastle United has seven travel teams. Opening day for Greencastle teams was outstanding with six wins and one tie.

Lauren Hirneisen scored the only goal of the game for the Under 10 (U10) girls against the SMSA Boiling Springs team. U12 girls also had a shutout with a 2-0 win over the BSYSA Newville team. Scoring for the U12 girls was Brittany Shaffer and Tabby Rudy. Goalie for U12 was Nicole Garns. The Camp Hill Comets were dominated by the U18 girls, 2-1.

The U9 boys beat the Mercersburg Avalanche 2-1. The Mechanicsburg Falcons fell to the U10 boys 4-1. The U12 boys and the Camp Hill Clash ended in a 4-4 tie. U14 boys crushed the West Shore Stingrays 8-0. Scoring for the U14 boys were Nick Schanzenbacher and Chad Sullivan with one goal each, Cody Young with two goals, and Taylor Kirpatrick with four goals. Josh Spoonhour was goalie for the shutout.
