Blue Devil
Dispatch
The Blue Devils claimed the Ian McCleary Memorial Soccer Tournament by defeating host Red Lion and Greenwood in the season opening action Saturday. The Devils held the home team scoreless in the opening game. An unassisted goal from Josh Higman and an Evon Wiestling goal from Jai Courter's pass put the Devils on the board. Goalkeeper Jon Zook had three saves to help give them a 2-0 victory. In the second game, the Devils entered halftime with a 1-0 lead on a Wiestling goal. After the Tigers leveled the score, the Devils rallied to score the last three goals of the game. Wiestling started the scoring back up from a Josh Higman pass. Then Higman's deflected shot found its way over the goalkeeper's head and into the net. The Devils final goal came off a corner kick. Mac Frederick directed Courter's service into the corner of the net. The trophies were presented after the final game at centerfield by the McCleary family. Field Hockey The Greencastle-Antrim field hockey squad opened the season Saturday in the Bermudian Springs Tournament. They faced New Oxford and Waynesboro in their two rounds on Saturday.
G - A turned things around in their second game against Waynesboro. The Blue Devils led Waynesboro in shots but just could not seem to find the cage. Trailing 3-0 at halftime, the Devils looked to come out strong in the second half. Musselman had 9 saves in the game that ended with a final score of 5-0. Cross Country The Greencastle-Antrim Cross Country teams competed in the Enos Yeager Invitational on Friday. Greencastle's top male placer Joe Pasquarello was 15th with a time of 14:36.3. Josh Phillips, Dustin Walker, Jacob Leary, and Brandon Thrush all finished within 20 seconds of each other placing between 25th and 30th. Other competitors included Gabriel Martin, Seth Martin, Josh Frankenfield, Mike Hohl, and Caleb Lougheed.
