Chaplain will speak at LEAD 9/11 service
The speaker will be Colonel Philip A. Mahalic, a U.S. Army Chaplain who has recently returned from Afghanistan and Iraq and is currently assigned to the Carlisle War College. He has also spent time in Kuwait and Qatar. Colonel Mahalic began his military career in 1969 when he entered the ROTC program at Rutgers University. He has dedicated 38 years of his life through the Guard, Reserve and Active Duty. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1983 upon completion of his schooling at St. Meinard Seminary, where he received a Master of Divinity degree. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Christian Theological Seminary in 1993. Special music for the service will be provided by Joan Sachs and Martin Wenger, soloist. Charles F. Nitterhouse Post 1599 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will present the colors and lead military honors in front of the chapel as the service concludes. An offering will be taken to support the continuing work of the Chapel in the community. The service is sponsored by the United Churches of the Chambersburg Area.
