Catherine L. Dunleavy

Catherine L. (Eberly) Dunleavy, 89, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of 207-A Elder Ave., Waynesboro, died at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007 in the emergency room of the Chambersburg Hospital. She was in failing health since entering the nursing home in December 2006.

Born Nov. 26, 1917 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Mary Bessie (Gossert) Eberly. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Dunleavy graduated from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1935. While in high school she played basketball.

She was employed in her early life as a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Mill, operator for the Waynesboro Telephone Company and did clerical work at Landis Tool Company, all of Waynesboro. Then following her marriage, she became a homemaker.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro and attended the Rouzerville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Dunleavy enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and watching sports.

She is survived by two daughters, Georgia L. Barvinchack of Greencastle and Betty J. Wray of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Peck and Mildred Knepper and two brothers, Lester Eberly and Arthur Eberly.

Memorial services were held the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 25 in Rouzerville United Methodist Church with Pastor Heather A. Hughes officiating.

Burial was at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or Benevolent Care Fund of The Village of Laurel Run, 6375 Chambersburg Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro was in charge of the arrangements.
