Julia A. Bowers Metcalfe

Julia A. Bowers Metcalfe, 85, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, and formerly of 8940 Larry Drive, Greencastle, died Thursday Aug. 23, 2007 in the home.

Born March 12, 1922 in Claylick, she was a daughter of the late James O. and Anna B. Robinson Bowers.

She was a member of First Church of God of Mercersburg.

Mrs. Metcalfe was a care provider for her family members and others.

Her husband, Ralph J. Metcalfe, whom she married in 1977, died April 7, 1982.

She is survived by four nieces, Carol Lee (Mrs. Glen E.) Martin and Michele D. (Mrs. Paul V. Jr.) Wolff, both of Greencastle, Nancy (Mrs. David) Ott and Patricia (Mrs. Paul) Brindle, both of Chambersburg; a grandniece, Ashley D. Shifflett and a grandnephew, Shawn D. Funk, both of Greencastle; two step sons, Dean Metcalfe and Aden Metcalfe, both of Mercersburg.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a special sister, Agnes N. Bowers and three brothers, Paul, Ellis and Charles Bowers

Services were held the morning of Monday, Aug. 27 in First Church of God, Mercersburg, with Reverend Matthew Robinson officiating.

Burial was in Welsh Run Brethren Church Cemetery, Welsh Run.

Arrangements were handled by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.
