G-A Homemakers set first fall meeting

The Greencastle-Antrim Homemaker's first fall meeting will be a picnic luncheon at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the new Antrim Township Community Park, Grant Shook Road. Carpooling, if needed, will leave from United Church of Christ parking lot on West Baltimore Street at 10:30 a.m.

The committee for this first meeting is Sally Bohn, Marcia Baumgardner, "Sis" Gingrich, Betty Lee Fisher and "Mim" Springer. Menu will be meat, dessert, beverage and rolls furnished by the committee. Covered dishes from attendees: A-K bring one hot dish; M-Z bring one cold dish. Everyone is to bring their own place setting. Reservations are needed by Sept. 4 by calling Jo Mowen at 597-3947.

A$10 once-a-year contribution from each person desiring to remain or become a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Homemakers will be collected, thus eliminating the collection of money each month. This contribution may be given at the first meeting. Persons of the area are cordially invited to attend and become members. Letters containing information on becoming a member, the lunch reservation form and the year's programs are available at the Lilian S. Besore Library, the Chamber of Commerce, both on West Baltimore Street, or Carl's Drug Store, North Antrim Way.

The Homemakers are in their 33rd year of existence, having been formed on Feb. 20, 1974 with Vida Ruth Hickey and the late Lorraine Anderson, the first co-leaders of the organization. The club is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Penn State Capital Region, with an office in Chambersburg. The aim of the Homemakers is "Better homemaking through education and training." The Extension provides workshops, leadership training and information materials to groups throughout Franklin County. The first County meeting, "Holiday Daze" will be Thursday, Nov. 8 in Chambersburg.

Greencastle Antrim Homemakers meets the second Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 9:30 a.m. sometimes meeting in member's homes or dining elsewhere. A new roster containing names, addresses and phone numbers will be compiled after the September meeting with each person receiving a copy, along with being placed on the Extension mailing list for upcoming events and their newsletter.
