Fund raisers

Veteran's Memorial benefit

A benefit toward a Greencastle Antrim Veteran's Memorial will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at the American Legion Picnic Grounds off Williamson Road.

Each half hour from 1 to 6 p.m. $100 will be given away. Food and refreshments will be served.

The event, being held by the American Legion and VFW in Greencastle, is open to the public.

Tickets are $10 per person ($5 for children) and may be purchased at either American Legion Post 373 or VFW Post 6319 in Greencastle.

5K Run and Walk

Boy Scout Troop 99 in Greencastle will hold its first Almost Labor Day 5K Run and Walk Saturday, Sept. 1 as a fund-raiser for 20 Scouts to attend the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, one of the BSA's premier high adventure bases, in July of 2008.

The race begins and ends at the Greencastle-Antrim High School rear parking lot, 300 S. Ridge Ave. Starting time is 8:30 a.m. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Entry fee is $20.

Sponsors for the event are needed.

Silent auction

Silent Auction, Thursday, September 6, 5:00-8:00pm. (Bidding ends at 7:30pm.) Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle, PA. Food stand will open at 4:30pm. Proceeds will benefit a church sponsored Mission Trip to Belize in November 2007. For more information call, 717-597- 8426.

Chicken barbecue

MERCERSBURG - A chicken barbecue will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Charlestown United Methodist Church, two and a half miles west of Mercersburg on Route 16.

The meal will include chicken, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, pepper slaw, applesauce, country ham sandwiches, pies, ice cream, coffee, soda and water.

At 5 p.m. David Kind Ministry will appear.

Spaghetti dinner

QUINCY - Quincy Retirement Community Auxiliary is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Satruday, Sept. 22 in Minnich Manor's Hess Room at Quincy Village.

The cost is $6.50 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Proceeds will support Assisted Living and Skilled Care Programs.

Yard sale

WAYNESBORO - Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 West North Street, will hold its second annual Church Wide Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the rear church parking lot and in Harbaugh Hall. The sale includes household and kitchen Items, books, furniture, electronics, and clothing. Members will also be holding a bake sale as part of the event.

Anyone who is willing to donate items may contact the church office at 717-762-7191. Arrangements can be made to pick up large donations.

Yard sale

CHAMBERSBURG - St. Paul United Methodist Women is sponsoring a yard sale to benefit missions in the Family Life Center of the church, 750 Norland Ave.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 6 and 7 and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. There will be baked goods, food, clothes and yard sale treasures.

Golf challenge

ETTERS - The sixth annual Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA Charity Golf Challenge will be held Friday, Sept. 21 at Valley Green Golf Course to benefit MDA.

Registration is at noon with a scramble format.
