Scouts offer 5K to raise funds Boy Scout Troop 99 in Greencastle will hold its first Almost Labor Day 5k Run and Walk Saturday, Sept. 1 as a fund-raiser for 20 Scouts to attend the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, one of the BSA's premier high adventure bases, in July of 2008. The race begins and ends at the Greencastle-Antrim High School rear parking lot, 300 S. Ridge Ave. Starting time is 8:30 a.m. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Entry fee is $15 for entries postmarked by 8-18-07; $20 race day. T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registrants. A limited number of shirts may be available on race day. Restrooms are available. Water will be provided along race route. Post-race refreshments will be served. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winner. The top two finishers in each age category will also receive an award. In addition to being a fundraiser for Troop 99, it is hoped that the event will also be a fun, family event that will be a unique occasion to celebrate health and fitness in the community. The Scouts are currently in need of sponsorship to make this event a success. Sponsorships can include monetary donations, as well as donations of door prizes and gift certificates. For registration information, or to become a sponsor, call Melissa Hohl, race coordinator at 717-597- 4350 or e-mail boyscout5k@comcast. net |
