Foundation grants can be sought

The Franklin County Foundation, a regional component of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, announces the opportunity for nonprofit organizations to submit Letters of Interest for discretionary grants to be awarded in the fall of 2007. The deadline for submission of Letters of Interest is Sept. 3, 2007.

Letters of Intzqzqerest will be accepted from nonprofit organizations that are classified under Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Organizations that serve the community in the areas of human services, education, environment, economic development, arts and health areas are among eligible types.

Grants are considered by and recommended for funding by the Franklin County Foundation Advisory Committee. Members of this Committee include Robert Zullinger, chairman; Harold Brake, Thomas K. Burkey, George S. Glen, Dawn Keller, Leroy S. Maxwell, Jr., Carolyn Miller, John Oyler, Gail Reeder, Charles G. Schlichter Jr., John McD. Sharpe Jr., and Nancy Van BusKirk.

In 2006, the Franklin County Foundation Advisory Committee assisted nine nonprofit organizations through their discretionary grantmaking efforts. Grants made by the Advisory Committee including the Greencastle-Antrim Education Foundation, $5,000 to develop early literacy skills in preschool children;.

The Franklin County Foundation enables donors to make charitable gifts through a community endowment especially for the benefit of Franklin County residents. Tax-deductible contributions may be made at any time and in any amount to existing funds, or donors may create new funds.
