Devil linksters off to solid start

The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devil golf team got off to a solid start amidst a rainy week with second and third place finishes.

Northern claimed both Mid- Penn Conference Capital Division matches in the opening week, at James Buchanan's Whitetail Golf Club and on G-A's home turf at Greencastle Greens. The Devils came in third at Whitetail and second at the Greens.

The Polar Bears led the way in Mercersburg with a 406, followed by Trinity with a 428. G-A's group carded a 438 for third. In Greencastle, Northern punched in with a 411 and the Blue Devils checked in at 422, besting Trinity by 10 strokes.

Shane Wollaston led G-A both days with an 83 at Whitetail and an 81 at Greencastle Greens. The senior was tied for fourth overall in the match at the Greens.

The rest of the Blue Devil scores at Whitetail were: Austin Dunhour, 84; Jordan Gembe, 87; Corey Main, 92; Zach Witmer, 92; Derrick Barkdoll, 95; Nathan Pool, 96; Daniel Bitner, 109.

The rest of the G-A scores at Greencastle were: Main 81; Dunhour, 85; Pool, 87; Gembe 88.

G-A's record stands at 9-3 after the opening week of play.
