Falcons win one in home opener The Greencastle Falcons opened the 2007 season at home by hosting Waynesboro on Sunday, Aug. 26. The jayvee Falcons fell to Waynesboro 7 - 0. Derek Measell had 44 rushing yards while Tyler Graham ran for 43. Graham led the defense with 7 tackles. Colin Runshaw had 4 while Colin Blubaugh and Matthew Chaney had 3 each. Chaney also recovered a Stallion fumble. Braxton Matthews and Casey Bard contributed 2 tackles each and Bryan Eckenrode, Zachary Koons, Griffin Remenick and Reese Kyler had a tackle a piece. The mid-varsity Falcons downed Waynesboro 12 - 6. Ashtin Byers ran for 61 yards and a score and hooked up with Matthew Montedoro for a 60 yard pass play that went for another score. Kristian Sheeley ran for 33 yards and Desmond Wolfe had 22 yards rushing. Byers and Montedoro led the defense with 8 and 7 tackles respectively. Sheeley, Dalton Webster and Connor Moore had 3 tackles each. Geoffrey Helfrick contributed 2 tackles and Chris Puffenbarger, Elijah Webster, Wolfe and LeErin Plasterer had a tackle each. The varsity Falcons ended the day's action falling by the score of 7 - 6. Dylan Piper ran for 79 yards and the lone score. Luke Myers had 14 yards rushing and Nolan Carbaugh hauled in a 19 yard pass. The defense, which held Waynesboro scoreless until late in the fourth quarter, was led by Parker Blubaugh with 6 tackles. Cameron Christman had 5 while Coby Salmon and Myers had 4 each. Gabe Fridgen had 3 tackles. Contributing 2 each were Grant Murray, Carbaugh, Hunter Szaflarski, Ian Spencer and Christopher Eadie. The tough defensive play was finished off with a tackle each from Corey Hartman, Austin Neville and Piper. The Falcons travel to Cumberland Valley to face the CV Eagles-White next Saturday, Sept. 1. Jayvee kick off is at 12:30 p.m. |
