Elks presents scholarships

The 2007 Elks scholarships were awarded at annual student aid scholarship reception/awards night recently.

Exalted Rule David Sanders presented Waynesboro Lodge Scholarships in the amount of $300 to the following students: Jessica Bovey and Bryce Rodgers, Elizabethtown College; Megan Tracey and Diane Arena, Shippensburg University; Molly Mullarky and Whitney Leitzel, Eastern University; Kevin Kline, Penn State University; Rebecca Willard, Waynesburg College; and Steven Arena, Pontifical College, Josephinum, Ohio.

Thomas Neady Scholarships in the amount of $300 were received by: Ben Bostic and Kristen Hess, Shippensburg University; Erin Keller, Indiana University of PA; Hannah Schuler, Marymount University; Amy Fretz, Penn State- Mont Alto; Zachary Gamble, Temple University; Anita Hoover, Eastern Mennonite University; and Dhara Patel, University of Maryland.

Past Exalter Rule Richard Hovis presented $300 Elks Memorial scholarships to the following students: Moomaw Memorial Scholarship to Zachary Helman, Mt. St. Mary's University; Mc- Naughton Memorial Scholarship to Emily Izer, Penn State University; Pellatiro Memorial Scholarship to Molly Mullarky, Eastern University. Matthew Anderson received the $1,000 Trostle Scholarship. He will attend Lock Haven University.

Pat and Jay Heefner awarded the initial $300 Heefner Scholarship to Ashley Bauerline, incoming freshman at Shippensburg University. Past Exalted Ruler Jay designated this award as the Lodge PER Honorary Award.

In memory of deceased members of the Student Aid Scholarship Committee at Waynesboro Elks, the following Lodge and Neady scholarships were designated as memorials: Lodge: Gary Kinley Memorial to Jessica Bovey; Neady: Richard Eversole Memorial to Dhara Patel; Neady: Lt. Col. Art Cronk Memorial to Anita Hoover.

Four students were recognized as recipients of scholarships and awards from the Elks National Foundation. Christa Hoover, 2007 Greencastle- Antrim High School graduate, received a $4,000 scholarship. Legacy Awards for $1,000 each, were received by Allison Doub, graduate of Westtown School; Megan Stefanic and Samantha Sebald, graduates of Waynesboro High School. Hoover will attend Wheaton College in Illinois; Doub will enroll at Villanova University; Stefanic will attend Misericordia University; and Sebald has been accepted at Drexel University.

Michael Rock, Manager of Human Resources at Cinetic Landis in Waynesboro and an alumnus of the Waynesboro Elks scholarship program, enumerated ten items that students should observe in achieving collegiate success and beyond. His remarks highlighted the students' necessary response for academic and career satisfaction.

More than 60 students, parents and guests attended the 61st scholarship awards activity. Twenty-one students were awarded Waynesboro Lodge scholarships when combined with the four students who received National Foundation scholarships and awards, the students received $14,500. Since 1946, more than 700 students received $257,627 in Waynesboro Lodge and Elks National Foundation scholarships and awards.
