Coming together like no other could

As a native of Mont Alto, I had never fully appreciated the extravaganza that is known as Old Home Week. And, although my staff tried to describe it to me, their description paled in comparison to the events that I witnessed. Never was the phrase, "There's no place like home," more true than it was Aug. 4 to 11 in the town of Greencastle. The community came together in a way that, I believe, no other could to welcome back past residents and celebrate what is uniquely their own traditions. I was amazed at the number of events, the quality of the performances, and the ease with which everything was carried out. From the cantata on Sunday evening to the parade on Saturday afternoon, I thoroughly enjoyed the week's activities.

I want to congratulate the Old Home Week committee, President Jeff Shank, and all the participants in every event. It was astounding to see the talent that this community has to offer. Likewise, the number of volunteers who give their time to organize, practice, and execute a whole week of excellent activities is just amazing. I salute you and thank you for a very enjoyable first Old Home Week. I assure you it won't be my last. I am very proud to represent such an outstanding community.
