HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The First National Bank of Greencastle recently contributed $5,000 to the Washington County United Way Foundation's Waltersdorf-Henson Endowment Challenge.

Dale Bannon, executive director of the county's United Way, accepted the check from the bank's Maugans Avenue Community Manager Tracy Burger and Business Development Officer Carl Galligan.

"The bank's $5,000 gift will be matched by the endowment through the Washington County Community Foundation," Bannon said. "The United Way Foundation's goal is not to have even $1 of the money donated to the United Way to be used for administrative purposes. We want to be able to say that every dollar donated goes directly to our 22 partner agencies."

The Endowment Challenge requires the United Way Foundation to raise the matching funds of $100,000 by 2009.

"We're very pleased to help the United Way Foundation reach its challenge," Burger added. "The United Way is such an instrumental force in the county in making our communities better and stronger."

The First National Bank of Greencastle operates 16 locations in Washington County and Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania. The three locations in Washington County are located at Maugans Avenue and Eastern Boulevard in Hagerstown and in Hancock, Md.
