Greencastle 9-10 All Stars place third in Maryland tournament

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - After falling short in PA District 14 Little League Inc. playoffs, the Greencastle- Antrim 9-10 baseball All Stars competed over a two week period to end up third out of 14 teams in the recent River City Classic.

Greencastle rolled through National 21-0 in four innings with three hits apiece by Kurt Hansen, Kristian Sheeley and Dalton Webster. Contributing one hit apiece were Cody Green, Kurtis Kline, Adam DeYoung and Myles Gayman. Gayman picked up the mound win.

Greencastle's first loss came by a 3-0 margin to Valley, the eventual tournament champion. Hits in that game came from Elijah Webster, Sheeley and Matt Kline. Next up was Pen Mar, who Greencastle setn home to a 9-2 defeat with hits by Green, K. Kline and Gayman. Gayman picked up his second win of the tournament.

Facing Halfway in the next game, the local team won 7-5 with hits by Hansen, Sheeley and M. Kline, who inked the pitching win. Moving on, Greencastle beat Federal 5-4 with multiple hits by Hansen, E. Webster and a game winning two-run homer in the top of the sixth by Sheeley. Also contributing hits were Green and Derek Measell with Gayman getting his third victory in the tournament.

It took just four innings to beat South Mountain 13-1. Hansen had three hits, E. Webster, Sheeley, Measell, Gayman, and Green added a hit each. Kline was the winning pitcher for his second victory of the tournament.

The wins advanced Greencastle to the final three, where it lost to Hancock in a 6-5 heartbreaker. Hancock scored six runs over the first five innings while Greencastle was left scoreless. At Greencastle's last attempt in the top of the sixth, they came out swinging with a leadoff hit by Gayman, and back-to-back doubles by Hansen and E. Webster. Two batters later, M. Kline doubled to drive in the fifth run of the inning. Greencastle ended it's tournament play just short of advancing to the championship game.
