Training course

CHAMBERSBURG - Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania is planning to hold a twelve-hour Congregational Health Ministry/Parish Nurse training course. Congregations may send either a nurse or other members interested in promoting wholistic wellness within their church community. The classes will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Monday evenings, Oct. 1, 8 and 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The classes will be held on the campus of the Luther Ridge Retirement Community, Chambersburg and will be taught by staff of Lutheran Home Care Services and Lutheran Social Services. There is no charge for this course.

Summertime worship

Potluck Picnic, Praising and Preaching at the Playground will be held on six Wednesdays this summer at the Jerome R. King Playground and sponsored by the Greencastle First United Methodist Church.

Summertime worship with friends from church and community will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 15 and 29 (Nelson pavilion).

Aglow retreat

CHAMBERSBURG - A combined retreat between Chambersburg and Waynesboro Aglow Lighthouses will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at the New Life Worship Center, 313 Warmspring Road.

The speaker will be Bill Yount, advisor for Aglow at Large.

Hospitality refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served between noon and 1 p.m.

Summer schedule

Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., now has the following summer worship schedule:

Sunday worship service with Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month is at 9 a.m. Following the service there is a coffee hour in the Luther Room. Sunday School will begin at 10:20 a.m.

The informal Saturday evening service with Holy Communion remains at the same time of 5 p.m.

The public is most welcome to attend these services. The church is handicapped accessible and parking is available beside the building.

Cathedral in the Pines

CALEDONIA - The Cathedral in the Pines Outdoor Worship Services, an outreach ministry sponsored by the Franklin County Sunday School Association, continues each weekend through Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Sept. 2, across from The Totem Pole Playhouse in Caledonia State Park, east of Chambersburg off Route 30.

Sunday School classes will be lead by the following on Aug. 12: adult - Claire Martin; junior high - Diana Hostetter; primary - Joyce Carl; preschool - Beth McCleaf with Dixie.

Special music will be by Eileen Flenner.

Benches are provided, however, patrons are welcome to bring lawn chairs.

In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held in The Totem Pole Playhouse.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Jamboree

CHAMBERSBURG - Jungle is continuing in the Chambersburg area through Aug. 10. Children in grades one through six are invited Tuesday through Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. to the Jumpin' Jungle Jamboree at Christian Life Church, 1400 Warm Spring Road.

On Friday, Aug. 10, the children will enjoy the Jumpin' Jungle Jamboree from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Carnival night for the entire family and all ages will be Friday, Aug. 10 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. There will be food, inflatables and more on Friday evening. Prizes will be given away every night.

Concert

PLAINFIELD - The sixth annual Concert of Gospel Music will be presented by St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The King's Messengers will perform all styles of Southern Gospel Music.

This concert will benefit the Project S.H.A.R.E. Food Bank of Carlisle. This Food Bank operates every month to help the low income people of the greater Carlisle Area. They serve about 850 households with a total of more then 1,300 adults and children a month.

Food and drinks will be for sale and a free-will offering will be taken. The event will be held rain or shine. Patrons should bring lawn chairs.

MOPS meetings

Greencastle area MOPS which will begin in September has begun taking registrations. This group is chartered by Otterbein United Brethren Church and will meet at the church, corner of Leitersburg Street and South Allison Street.

The meetings will be twice a month on Monday mornings with an annual fee of $20. Babysitting, crafts, refreshments and life lessons in the joy of mothering are part of the program. Preschoolers may be brought to the meetings.

Enquirer's classes

WAYNESBORO - St. Mary's Episcopal Church, corner of Broad and Second streets, is hosting a series of informal Enquirer's Classes each Wednesday evening at 7 in the parish hall.

These classes will explore all aspects of the Christian faith as well as Anglicanism and the Episcopal church. Study will be combined with prayer, music and fellowship

The class is ongoing and anyone may come at any time.

Fall Fest

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - Gateway Ministries will hold a fall fest including arts and crafts, baked goods, jewelry, primitive items, candles, books, and childrens' activities from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
