Greencastle 8-9-10 team takes District 14 Body title

The Greencastle 8-9-10 Clarence Boyd Tournament team defied the odds and beat previously undefeated Red Land a second time to capture the Clarence Boyd 8-9-10 District 14 championship.

Greencastle catcher, Jared Spoonhour, set the tone with a leadoff linedrive single to center in the top of the first inning and Greencastle never looked back. Greencastle led the entire game and pounded out 14 more hits over six innings to win 8-5.

Spoonhour was 2-for-2 with a double and scored 4 runs. Griff Remenick also doubled and had three hits. Wayne Kline, Gene Byers, Jack Alexander and Spencer Meyers added two hits each and Casey Hoover and Josiah Hissong completed the hit parade with one each.

Meyers met the challenge on the mound and struck out five Red Land batters over 4 1/3 innings and finished his post season with a 4-0 record. Wayne Kline picked up his third save.

Greencastle scored 123 runs in their 10 games and completed postseason play with an 8-2 record.

The team had a come-frombehind victory on Saturday over undefeated Red Land to force the final game between the two teams for the title.

Down 12-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Greencastle used seven hits, two walks and a Red Land error to score nine runs. Hoover had two hits during the onslaught, a single and the game winning triple that cleared the loaded bases and gave Greencastle the 13-12 victory.

Thursday night Greencastle recovered from a 14-run loss to Red Land. Greencastle belted 16 hits for a 16-4 win over Cumberland Valley West in CBT district play. Spencer Meyers allowed just 4 hits in 4 innings of work and got the win for Greencastle. Meyers and Kline both had three hits while Spoonhour, Hoover, and Timi Tijani provided two hits each. Tijani raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homerun his first at bat. Griff Remenick, Gene Byers, Jack Alexander and Josiah Hissong completed the 16-hit attack with one hit each.
