Fast-pitch softball clinics

The Mason Dixon Blaze fast-pitch softball organization is conducting a softball clinic from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday Aug. 7 and 8 at the Greencastle-Antrim Baseball/ Softball complex.

The cost of the clinic is $40 per player and the instructors will focus on hitting and throwing fundamentals. The clinic will be conducted by Mason Dixon Blaze managers and coaches and will include hitting instructor Tom Petroff.

The Blaze organization will also hold a pitching clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 for beginning/intermediate pitchers. The cost of the pitching clinic will be $15 per player and will be held at the Greencastle-Antrim Baseball/Softball complex. Bob Kline will be the lead instructor.

Fred Kaley Memorial 5K

The 23rd annual Fred Kaley Memorial 5K Run-Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 on the Greencastle-Antrim schools campus.

Hosted by the Greencastle Flyers, the event will be run in conjunction with the 36th triennial Old Home Week celebration.

The event starts and ends on the outdoor track in the rear of the high school and follows nearby town streets. Trophies will be presented to overall male and female winners and age group winners.

Registration is $15 before July 21 and $20 after that date. Pre-registrants are guaranteed a short-sleeved T-shirt.

Blaze tryouts

The Mason Dixon Blaze girls fast-pitch travel program has scheduled tryouts for 2007- 2008 season Saturdays, Aug. 18 and 25. The tryouts will be held at the Greencastle-Antrim Baseball/Softball complex.

The following age groups will be held during the following times: 10U and 12U from 10 a.m. to noon; 14U from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; 16U and 18U from 3 to 5 p.m..

G-A Quarterback Club

The Greencastle-Antrim Quarterback Club meeting schedule for 2007 is as follows: Monday, July 30, 7 p.m., Jerome R. King Playground; Tuesday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m., GAHS cafeteria; Tuesday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m., G-AHS cafeteria; Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m., G-AHS cafeteria.

Golf classic

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - The 12th Annual Saint James School Golf Classic will be held Monday, Sept. 17 at Cress Creek Golf and Country Club.

The tournament, which supports student scholarships, is limited to the first 108 golfers. The entry fee for an individual player is $150. A Birdie Sponsorship is $500 and includes two players and your business name on the sponsor board. An Eagle Sponsorship, which is the tournament's most popular selection, includes a foursome and your business name on a tee sign. The Eagle Sponsorship fee is $750. All entry fees include a cart, greens fees, a wind vest, a boxed lunch, an awards reception and dinner, along with numerous prizes.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon. The format is a four-person scramble with USGA Scramble Handicap Rules.

Triathlons

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Hub City Triathlon Club will hold the Hagerstown Youth and Sprint Triathlons in July to benefit the Literacy Council of Washington County.

The youth race (100 meter pool swim, 2 mile bike, .75 mile run) will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28 for ages 8 to 13.

The adult race (300 meter pool swim, 11.5 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 29.

Registration is open to individuals or teams.
