Chloe E. Hartman
Mrs. Chloe E. (Shatzer) Hartman, 79, of 188 Warmsprings Road, Chambersburg, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, in her home. She had been ill for seven months and critically ill for three weeks.
Born Aug. 1, 1927 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late George H. Shatzer and Ida Catherine (Bitner) Shatzer Daley. She spent her early life on Madison and Jefferson Streets in Greencastle.
Mrs. Hartman graduated from Greencastle High School with the Class of 1945.
She and her husband, Edgar C. Hartman, Sr., were married March 9, 1946 in Smithsburg, Md. They had lived at their present residence since March 1972. Mr. Hartman died Jan.,6, 2005.
She and her husband operated a farm in Shady Grove, from 1947 to 1958 and two farms in Orrstown, from 1958-1972. She also worked part time in the summer and fall months for Knouse Foods, Chambersburg, from 1961 to 1964.
Mrs. Hartman was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, Chapter 1128, Chambersburg AMVETS Post 224 Ladies Auxiliary, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary and National AARP.
She attended Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church, Newburg.
Mrs. Hartman enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by six daughters, Rose E. Varner of Shippensburg, Shirley L. Foreman of Chambersburg, Ruby J. Rupp of Gardners, Judy C. Wenger of Chambersburg, Nancy D. Statler of Chambersburg, Doris Jean Hartman of Chambersburg; three sons: Edgar C. Hartman, Jr. of Greencastle, Ronnie L. Hartman of Chambersburg, Chester R. Hartman of St. Thomas; 21 grandchildren: nine step-grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 13 step-greatgrandchildren; a sister, Suzie A. Trivitt of Greencastle: a brother, Allen C. Shatzer of Greencastle; step-sister: Mary Louise Kessler of Greencastle; two step-brothers: Harold Burger, of Hagerstown, Md., Robert Burger, Clear Spring, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Don B. Shatzer; a grandson, Aaron Jacob Hartman; a great grandson; and a step-grandson.
Services were held the afternoon of Tuesday, July 24, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Simon Laymon officiating.
Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
