Kern blasts grand slam in Indian win Corey Kern hit a grand slam to help lift the Indians over the Pirates 10-7 in Greencastle-Antrim Pony League baseball action last week. The Indians took a 10-2 lead over three innings and held off the Pirates, who rallied for five in the top of the fifth. Dylan Schaeffer pitched five innings to earn the win. MAJOR DIVISION BASEBALL
Phillies 5, Pirates 2 Jordan Thompson hit his second two-run double of the game in the fifth for some precious insurance for the Phillies in a 5-2 win over the Pirates. Thompson ended up with four RBIs on the day with his two-run double in the first while going 2- for-2. Justin Hovey drove in a run to help his cause. He fanned seven in the mound win, giving up two hits in five frames. Hunter Szaflarski had a pair of bunt singles. For the Pirates, Jordan Thompson recovered from a rocking first inning to strike out 11 with just one walk. Matt Ehrhart doubled. MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Tigers 15, Reds 6 Tigers 14, A's 4 The Greencastle Tigers' bats remained hot last week in wins over the Reds and the A's. The Tigers combined nine hits with 11 walks to down the Reds 15-6 Thursday. Wyatt Spencer was 2-for-2 with a triple, Jared Spoonhour 2-for-2 with a double and Sam Calvin was 2-for-3. Derek Fischer added a double for the Tigers. Collin Blubaugh and Cory Monn were 2-for-2 for the Reds. Saturday the Tigers used 15 hits to defeat the A's 14-4. Myles Gayman, Morgan Bush, and Fischer each had two hits. Spencer and Calvin had three apiece. Spencer added a triple, double and four RBIs for the Tigers. Aaron Litton doubled and Aaron Weisner homered for the A's. Gayman got both wins for the Tigers and improved his record to 9-0. |
