Troop 99 seeks flags for retiring ceremony

Greencastle Boy Scout Troop 99 will hold its fifth annual Flag Retiring Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at the Antrim Township Park, Grant Shook Road.

Troop 99 has collected worn and tattered American Flags from the community to be used in the retiring ceremony. To contribute a flag to be retired, contact the Troop's leadership, Scout Masters Jim Hall at 597- 8382 or Randall Ackerman at 597-3343.

The troop plans to make the ceremony community focused and wishes to invite all local residents and civic groups to attend. The troop's sponsoring organization, the Harry O. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, as well as the Greencastle American Legion will be supporting the event.

Teenage scouts from the troop will lead the ceremony, which is designed to show patriotism, and respect for the nation's flag. The ceremony will culminate with the disposal and burning of old American Flags. The ceremony will include patriotic music provided by a men's chorus from the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. Light refreshments will be provided.
