The management team at Greencastle Food Lion isn't afraid to get silly for a good cause. They and all the employees are raising money for Children's Miracle Network by soliciting contributions from the public.
"Our goal is $5000 by the end of the year," said Customer Service Manager Beth Lovell.
If the employees could sell 1000 balloons in the first 15 days of April, their bosses promised they would dye their hair in crazy colors at work one day. Then one fellow offered to shave his beard and moustache if sales reached 2000 by the end of the month.
They did and the managers kept their word.
On April 20 Alicia Grimm sported a pink hairdo. Tracy Cope went multi-colored. Mary Overcash went multi and added a smiley face. Lovell sprayed blue and orange stripes in her hair. Lisa Orne chose metallic blue. John Piper shaved his tenyear growth.
The company is planning a major event for Saturday, June 2, to continue the momentum for the charity fundraising. Food Lion hopes to have local law enforcement and emergency personnel on site, as well as games, food, and family activities.
"We do all this for the kids and to help raise most-needed funds for the children's hospital," said Lovell. "The money that we raise goes directly to research and development for childhood diseases."
