Police reports

The following cases were recently docketed before Magisterial District Judge Duane Cunningham:

Police charged Donald Eugene Hess, 57, of 45 W. Franklin St., Greencastle, with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .213 percent, disregard for a traffic lane, and careless driving. Hess was involved in a onevehicle crash at 10:43 a.m. May 26, police said. He was driving a 1984 Ford F-150 west on Clayhill Road and drifted off the right side of the roadway, striking a fence and utility pole. Hess was not injured.

A Cincinnati, Ohio, woman was charged with driving under the influence, disregard for a traffic lane, and reckless driving for an incident at 2 a.m. on Aug. 13. Greencastle police noticed Barbara R. Burns, 49, traveling eastbound on West Baltimore Street in a 1995 Ford. According to police, she was driving erratically, nearly missing a parked vehicle. She failed three field sobriety tests and was transported to Waynesboro Hospital, where she refused to submit a blood alcohol content testing, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police have charged Marty William Maness, 43, of 8926 Thompson Road, Needmore, with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking and reckless endangerment after an incident that occurred at Modnur Pharmacy, 4495 Lincoln Way West, around noon on June 26. According to the criminal complaint, Maness entered the pharmacy and demanded oxycontin and percocet from store employee Charles Mills, pointing a handgun at him and placing it on Mills' chest. Police said they were called at 12:18 p.m. to report a robbery in progress at the pharmacy, with a husky male subject

wearing a dark mask, blue shirt, dark pants, black shoes and carrying a black handgun. According to the criminal complaint, Maness fled the scene upon receiving the pills and a witness saw a red station wagon with a heavy-set female and a male occupant leave the area. Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg later stopped a vehicle matching the description on Route 522 in Fulton County. Police said the woman in the car, Kathy McFadden, told them she and Maness began planning the crime on June 25, and she assessed the interior of the business prior to the crime. According to police, Maness admitted planning, possession of the handgun, and his presence in the pharmacy. Police said when they searched the car they recovered a handgun, mask, and pill bottles, some with Modnur Pharmacy ID stickers.

Pennsylvania State Police said they charged Larry Stephen Cotton, 45, of 10845 Burkett Road, with driving under the influence such that he was incapable of safe driving, failure to drive in the traffic lane, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving after an accident at 1 a.m. June 8 at Worleytown Road in Antrim Township. Police said they were dispatched to a crash scene where they found Cotton's vehicle on fire. Police reported that a preliminary breath test showed Cotton's blood alcohol content to be .143 percent. According to the report, Cotton refused to take a blood test.

Police said Dodie T. Noel, 47, of 9543 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, was charged with failure to stay in a single lane of traffic and careless disregard for the safety of persons and property for an incident that occurred at 2:23 a.m. May 14 on West Baltimore Street near the borough line. Police also charged Noel with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol count of .16 percent.

Police said they charged Amanda French, 25, of 9030 Rabbit Road North, Greencastle, with failure to stay in a single lane on North Antrim Way between Williamson Avenue and Hicks Chevrolet at 11:53 p.m. May 13. French was also charged with careless driving after police allegedly observed her cross the center lane four times and with driving under the influence for a blood alcohol content of .179 percent.

Police said they charged Michelle Ludwig, 33, of 6073 Montgomery Church Road, with failure to keep to the right side of the road on North Antrim Way between Williamson Avenue and the borough line at 1:30 a.m. May 3. Ludwig was also charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .118 percent.

According to court documents, police have charged Jason Allen Knott, 20, of 12635 Carol Ave., with theft by unlawful taking for allegedly taking a total of $350 from Smokin Joe's Tobacco Shop, 13658 Molly Pitcher Highway in Antrim Township. Police allege Knott took money on two occasions, between 3 and 8 p.m. on April 28 and between 3 and 8 p.m. May 2.

Court documents said police charged Leo Todd Finks, 30, of 6886 Dumney Road, with harassment after Finks allegedly grabbed a female victim at 6886 Dumney Road, struck her in the face, causing a nose bleed, at 2:33 a.m. May 7.

Police said they charged Frederick Montgomery Hepfer, 23, of 11 N. Carlisle St., Apt. 302, with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person after an incident that occurred at 12:27 p.m. May 6 on Wilkson Lane near the power substation in Guilford Township. Police said Hepfer struck a female victim and attempted to drive away dragging her. Apreliminary hearing was set for May 16 in Franklin County court.

Police charged Jeremy Glenn Pentz, 27, of P.O. Box 45, Quincy, with driving on roadways laned for traffic and careless disregard for safety of persons and property after a traffic stop at 1:37 a.m. May 6 on West Baltimore Street. Police also charged Pentz with driving under the influence with general impairment after he refused to take a blood alcohol test.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg recently issued the following news releases. (Information on any of the cases should be called in to police at 264-5161.):

An unknown person entered the unlocked vehicle of Gary Frisby, 14745 Sherwood Drive, Greencastle, and stole the car stereo, car speaker and amp. The incident happened between 7 p.m. Aug. 12 and 2:45 p.m. Aug. 14.

Someone caused damage to a camper at 3537 Barr Road, Greencastle, between Aug. 13 and 15. The owner is Michelle Alexander of Maugansville.

A vehicle belonging to Rose Ann Kennedy of 640 Leitersburg Road, Greencastle, was scratched with obscenities between 7 a.m. Aug. 10 and 7 a.m. Aug. 14.

Matthew Knoll of 2253 Coldsmith Road reported that someone stole six split rails from his fence between 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18 and noon Aug. 19. The person broke a fence post to remove the rails. Damage and replacement was estimated at $150.

Police charged Karen Farrell, address unknown, with public drunkenness at 6:45 a.m. on Aug. 17. Farrell was found passed out at the Buckhorn Family Restaurant at the TATruck Stop in Greencastle.

Criminal mischief occurred at the Food Lion lot at 16 Commerce Ave. in Antrim Township. Graffiti was found on a wall within the facility. The report was received at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.

Police investigated a complaint leveled by Connie Hummer, 59, toward Richard Shank, 49, following a verbal dispute at 12740 Molly Pitcher Highway, Lot 2 at 11:58 a.m. on Aug. 18. Police arrested Shank for disorderly conduct.

Greencastle Police issued the following reports:

One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Antrim Way South near Keystone Ford at 3:09 p.m. on July 21. Pollyanna Hess, 44, of Hades Church Road, was driving an Oldsmobile north. She pulled over to the right, preparing to turn left to head south on U.S. 11. Reynaldo Martinez, 27, of Chambersburg, hit her from behind in his Honda. His passenger, a 24-year-old male, was transported to Washington County Hospital. Martinez was uninjured and Hess refused treatment. Both cars were towed. Hess was charged with careless driving.

Steven Perrin, 51, 9822 Grindstone Hill Road, was charged with failing to stop, following an accident at 4 p.m. on July 21. Perrin, in a Ford F-150, exited Church Lane onto East Madison Street, and struck a Chevrolet driven by Joseph Conrad, 36, 162 N. Allison St. Conrad swerved to avoid a collision and went onto the sidewalk, hitting a traffic sign. There were no injuries but the Chevrolet was towed from the scene.

A rabbit running across the street caused Dantel Prather, 23, of Hagerstown, to swerve and lose control of his Suzuki motorcycle at 2002 Leitersburg St. on July 26. Prather was heading east and damaged bushes he ran into on the property.

A 17-year-old Greencastle youth was taken to Waynesboro Hospital after he rear-ended another car at 12:43 p.m. on Aug. 2. He was driving north on Allison Street when a bee entered his vehicle and stung him in the neck. He was distracted and struck a Saturn driven by Dana Long of LeMasters.

Dwayne Sheffield, 44, of 4356 Sportsman Road, was observed spinning the rear tires of his 2000 Ford Mustang by a Greencastle police officer. The officer pursued him at 11:58 p.m. on Aug. 5. Sheffield went north on Antrim Way onto Williamson Avenue, speeding up to 75 mph. He was seen crossing the yellow line twice, and was finally stopped in the 1600 block of Williamson Road. A preliminary breath test showed a reading of .11 percent. Sheffield was arrested for DUI.

Roland Turner of Ranson, WV was driving north on Antrim Way at 12:21p.m. on Aug. 9. He turned his 1996 Chevrolet onto Williamson Avenue, but a vehicle was in his lane of travel. He swerved and struck the stop sign at the intersection.

A 17-year-old female from Greencastle struck the 2005 Ford Explorer of Candy Barnes, Waynesboro, in a mishap on Aug. 11 at 4:41 p.m. The girl turned left from Church Lane onto East Baltimore Street into the path of Barnes' vehicle. The two drivers, as well as two teen passengers in the girl's car, were not injured.

A 17-year-old female from Greencastle was charged with driving under the influence, operating on a junior driver's license after 11 p.m., and a turn signal violation following a traffic stop on Aug. 15. The girl was observed turning without signaling at 2:10 a.m. at the corner of West Baltimore Street and South Carlisle Street. The officer saw an open beer container on the floor of the vehicle. The girl failed the preliminary breath test.
