Music Notes
By W. E. HARVIE Greencastle-Antrim School District Music Department

Guard Camp has already begun at the Greencastle-Antrim High School. Last week the girls spent three days learning the basic fundamentals of their part in the Field Band program for the upcoming season. This year has many new guard girls. They are very highly spoken of by their instructors, so this season should be enjoyable.

This current week is daytime Band Camp for the senior high field band. They will be the ones you hear on the field all day long. Thanks to the mothers who come in and prepare cool refreshing drinks for these students. Sun screen will be heavily used this week, as the students rehearse their program in the sun. There are several new students in field band, also because some students graduated last year. Each and every year the instructors and older students teach the students how to "read charts" and step off their position. Each student has been working on the music this summer during rehearsals. The music must be memorized so that students are free to associate the music with the moves of their chart. These students give their all to making each year's field show the best that they can produce. Their devotion and determination is to be admired.

The students who want to audition for District 7 band, chorus and orchestra have their music and are already practicing for their auditions. There have been rehearsals this summer for the students trying out for District 7 chorus. Although students are going on vacation, working jobs and many other obligations, these students are working to do their best with the music.
