The Tayamentasachta renovation project received a boost recently. Dirk Mowen, owner of Ganoe Paving, made a $10,000 donation. He presented the check to Kerri Barnes, capital campaign co-chair.

Mowen is the grandson of Fred Kaley, who was instrumental in 1966 in getting the school board to use the entire newly-acquired property as an ecological studies center. A physical education teacher, Kaley led the charge to halt the sale of the farmhouse, barn and spring on the 58-acre site.

Mowen said, “He fought to keep it. That’s why I felt I could give back to the community this way. I’m able to do it and happy to.”
